A plain-language guide to how county ballot access works in all 16 Maine counties. Maine is the one state in the country where a real door is still open for November 2026: you can declare as a write-in candidate with the Secretary of State until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the 70th day before the election.
