Privacy Policy

Motion51 builds canvassing tools for political campaigns across the United States. This policy covers what we collect on our website at motion51.com, what happens inside the canvassing application, and how we handle voter registration data. Our Terms of Service describe the rules campaigns agree to when they use Motion51.

Who we are

Motion51 is operated by Jason Becher in Florida. For privacy questions or to exercise any of the rights described below, email [email protected]. That address is also our designated request address under Nevada law (NRS 603A).

What we collect on this website

• Standard server logs. Our hosting provider (Railway) records each page request with your IP address, user-agent string, the page you visited, the referring page, and a timestamp — the same information any web server records by default. Logs are purged on a rolling basis (roughly 30 days).
• Site analytics. We use Google Analytics to count page views and understand which pages are useful. Google Analytics sets cookies for this purpose. We do not run advertising, advertising cookies, or cross-site tracking, and we do not sell or share your browsing data with advertisers.
• Email and forms. If you email us or submit the walkthrough request form, we receive what you send and use it only to respond to you.

Account and billing information

When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and a password (stored hashed, never in plain text), plus basic information about your campaign. Payments are processed by Stripe; your card number goes to Stripe, not to us. Volunteer logins are created by campaign administrators and are scoped so volunteers see only their own campaign's assignments.

Voter registration data

The Motion51 application works with voter registration data — public-record information such as name, address, party registration, age, and voting history (whether someone voted, never how they voted, which is secret). We currently work with data obtained from state and county election officials in states including Florida, Mississippi, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Washington, and campaigns in other states may lawfully bring their own files. Here is how we handle it:

• It stays behind a login. Voter data lives only inside the authenticated application. It is never published on the open internet.
• Access is scoped. Each campaign sees only the voters relevant to its race, and each volunteer sees only the doors assigned to them.
• Political use only. Our Terms of Service require every campaign to use voter data solely for political and election-related purposes, consistent with the law of the state the data came from. We do not sell voter data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
• Protected voters are filtered. Records that states flag as confidential or address-protected are excluded from campaign views.
• Corrections happen at the source. Voter registration records are created and maintained by your county or state election office; to correct or update yours, contact them. If you have a concern about your record appearing in Motion51, email us and we will work with you.

Campaign canvassing data

The canvass results, contact notes, and reports a campaign creates in Motion51 belong to that campaign. We use this data only to operate and improve the service. We do not sell it, share it with other campaigns, or use it for advertising.

Volunteer location. When a volunteer records a knock, the app may attach their device’s GPS coordinates to that record so the campaign can spot obvious data-quality problems — for example, a knock logged nowhere near the address it claims. The app asks the volunteer’s permission first and works normally if permission is declined, a volunteer’s location is never shown to other volunteers, and we do not use it for advertising or share it with anyone outside the volunteer’s own campaign.

Service providers we rely on

Each of these providers receives only what it needs to do its job:

• Railway — application and database hosting (United States).
• Stripe — payment processing.
• Resend — transactional and outreach email delivery.
• Google Analytics — website usage statistics.
• Microsoft 365 — our email inbox.
• Cloudflare — DNS and network security.
• MapTiler — map tiles shown in the canvassing app (your device requests map imagery from MapTiler when viewing maps).

We do not sell your information to data brokers, advertisers, or anyone else.

How long we keep information

• Server logs: purged on a rolling basis (roughly 30 days).
• Account and campaign data: kept while the account is active. After a campaign ends or an account is terminated, we delete campaign data on request; routine encrypted backups expire on their own schedule.
• Email correspondence: kept as long as needed to maintain the conversation. You can ask us to delete prior emails at any time.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws like California's CCPA, other state privacy laws, or the EU's GDPR, including the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to access it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale — though we do not sell personal information in the first place. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond at no cost and will not discriminate against you for asking. Note that voter registration records themselves are public records maintained by election officials; deleting or correcting your registration happens through your county or state election office.

Children's privacy

Motion51 is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

International visitors

Motion51 operates from the United States. If you visit from outside the United States, your information is processed in the United States, which may have different privacy protections than your home country.

Changes to this policy

If our practices change, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top, with reasonable advance notice of material changes where practical.
