How to get the King County voter file
Request it from the office below, send us the file, and you're ready to cut turf. Running countywide or in just part of King County? This is the office either way.
- Where to request it
- King County Electionselections@kingcounty.gov | (206) 296-VOTE (8683) | 919 SW Grady Way, Renton, WA 98057-2906 | Director of Elections: Julie Wise
- Cost
- Free for the VRDB extract routed through the SOS (the recommended channel — King County records ARE in the statewide file). For King-County-only custom extracts via the Public Records Request Center: free for emailed CSV / electronic delivery; paper copies $0.15/page; CDs/DVDs at actual cost; staff search/redaction time billable per RCW 42.56.120 if request requires significant work.
- How to request
- King County Elections directs voter-list requesters to the state SOS VRDB extract for the bulk file (county filter applied to county code 17). For King-County-specific data requests not satisfied by the state file (e.g., ballot return cumulative reports, signature challenge lists, custom geographic cuts), submit through the King County Public Records Request Center at kingcounty.gov/about/public-records. PRR is a Public Records Act request governed by RCW 42.56.
- Turnaround
- VRDB through SOS: 1-3 business days. King County Public Records Request: agency must respond within 5 business days (acknowledge/clarify/produce); routine voter list cuts typically produced within 5-10 business days; complex requests can extend with notice.
- Use restrictions
- Same as state: RCW 29A.08.720 no-commercial-solicitation; RCW 29A.08.740 felony enforcement. King County PRR submitters sign the standard acknowledgment.
Costs and rules change — confirm the current details with the office before you order. Once you have the file, we handle loading it, cutting turf, and getting your volunteers knocking.
