Of those, 541,273 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 25.1% are 65 or older. Its 443,429 active registered voters equal about 81.9% of that voting-age population.
It covers 1,015 square miles of land (649 people per square mile), and 36.0% of residents live outside any incorporated city or town. The largest cities and towns are Palm Bay (142,023), Melbourne (87,561), Titusville (49,883), Rockledge (31,429) and West Melbourne (31,378). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 46.7, a median household income of $78,476, 34.2% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 76.7% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.
In 2024, 361,449 votes were cast for president, about 66.8% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 39.1% and the Republican ticket 59.9%. The two-party margin moved from R+10.4 in 2008 to R+20.8 in 2024.
