Okaloosa County had an estimated 220,483 residents in July 2024, the 26th most populous of Florida's 67 counties, up 4.2% since the 2020 census. Of those, 170,954 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 17.3% are 65 or older. Its 147,281 active registered voters equal about 86.2% of that voting-age population.
It covers 930 square miles of land (237 people per square mile), and 57.1% of residents live outside any incorporated city or town. The largest cities and towns are Crestview (30,727), Fort Walton Beach (21,188), Niceville (17,919), Destin (13,991) and Valparaiso (4,852). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 37.4, a median household income of $81,998, 34.8% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 68.4% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.
In 2024, 113,634 votes were cast for president, about 66.5% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 28.2% and the Republican ticket 70.7%. The two-party margin moved from R+44.9 in 2008 to R+42.5 in 2024.
