How to get the City of Chicago voter file
Request it from the office below, send us the file, and you're ready to cut turf. Running countywide or in just part of City of Chicago? This is the office either way.
- Where to request it
- Chicago Board of Election Commissioners (BOEC) — separate election authority for the City of Chicago(312) 269-7870 | (312) 263-1394 | foia@chicagoelections.gov | 69 W. Washington St., Suite 600, Chicago, IL 60602
- Cost
- Quoted by request — not published online. Call BOEC or email foia@chicagoelections.gov for current schedule.
- How to request
- Written request to BOEC FOIA Officer (mail, fax, email, or in-person). BOEC operates a separate 'Requests for Electronic Voter Registration Data for Candidates/Public Officials/Political Action Committees' track distinct from general FOIA. Requester must be a registered IL political committee or governmental entity; sworn affidavit required. FOIA general form at app.chicagoelections.gov/documents/general/FOIA-General-Form.pdf.
- Turnaround
- 5 business days statutory FOIA response (extendable +5). Electronic voter data orders may take longer due to fee processing.
- Use restrictions
- Same statutory framework — committees/government only, bona fide political purpose affidavit, no commercial use, no resale. Chicago BOEC's jurisdiction is City of Chicago ONLY (~1.5M voters in 1,291 precincts). The split dates to an 1885 IL law allowing municipalities to vote in their own Board of Election Commissioners, which every Chicago township did.
Costs and rules change — confirm the current details with the office before you order. Once you have the file, we handle loading it, cutting turf, and getting your volunteers knocking.
