George County had an estimated 25,880 residents in July 2024, the 34th most populous of Mississippi's 82 counties, up 6.3% since the 2020 census. Of those, 19,061 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 15.4% are 65 or older. Its 15,604 active registered voters equal about 81.9% of that voting-age population.
It covers 479 square miles of land (54 people per square mile), and 87.9% of residents live outside any incorporated city or town. Its one incorporated place is Lucedale (3,124 residents). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 36.3, a median household income of $59,758, 17.5% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 82.1% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.
In 2024, 11,069 votes were cast for president, about 58.1% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 10.3% and the Republican ticket 89.1%. The two-party margin moved from R+66.1 in 2008 to R+78.8 in 2024.
