How to get the Yellowstone County voter file
Request it from the office below, send us the file, and you're ready to cut turf. Running countywide or in just part of Yellowstone County? This is the office either way.
- Where to request it
- Yellowstone County Election Office (under the County Clerk & Recorder / Election Administrator)elections@yellowstonecountymt.gov | (406) 256-2740 | Physical: 217 N 27th Street, Room 109, Billings, MT 59101 | Mail: P.O. Box 35002, Billings, MT 59107-5002 | Election Administrator: position currently held by the Clerk & Recorder's office
- Cost
- Actual cost only per MCA 13-2-122 — typically charged as duplication + staff time. Small precinct-level or single-list pulls are usually $5–$50; full county extract typically not provided at county level (referred to SOS at $1,000). No published fee schedule on the county site as of this writing; ask the Election Administrator for a quote.
- How to request
- Submit a written 'Request for Registered Voter Information' to the Election Administrator with intended use disclosed (non-commercial certification required per MCA 13-2-122). For anything larger than a single-precinct list, the Election Office will typically direct requesters to the statewide SOS Voter File application — counties do NOT maintain a separate sale channel for the registration database, since the data lives in the centralized statewide system.
- Turnaround
- Typically 5–10 business days for a county-level PRR. Faster for in-person pickup of pre-built precinct lists.
- Use restrictions
- Same as statewide: non-commercial use only (MCA 13-2-122). The Election Administrator may require a signed certification at the time of request. Confidential electors stripped.
Costs and rules change — confirm the current details with the office before you order. Once you have the file, we handle loading it, cutting turf, and getting your volunteers knocking.
