Niagara County had an estimated 209,570 residents in July 2024, the 18th most populous of New York's 62 counties, down 1.5% since the 2020 census. Of those, 168,410 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 21.9% are 65 or older. Its 143,720 active registered voters equal about 85.3% of that voting-age population.
It covers 522 square miles of land (401 people per square mile). The largest towns and cities are Niagara Falls (47,512), North Tonawanda (29,981), Lockport (20,559), Lockport (20,394) and Wheatfield (18,578). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 43.3, a median household income of $69,633, 28.0% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 71.2% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.
In 2024, 102,116 votes were cast for president, about 60.6% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 42.5% and the Republican ticket 57.5%. The two-party margin moved from D+1.1 in 2008 to R+15.0 in 2024.
