Oswego County had an estimated 118,305 residents in July 2024, the 24th most populous of New York's 62 counties, up 0.6% since the 2020 census. Of those, 94,421 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 19.2% are 65 or older. Its 75,698 active registered voters equal about 80.2% of that voting-age population.
It covers 952 square miles of land (124 people per square mile). The largest towns and cities are Oswego (17,047), Fulton (11,234), Hastings (9,387), Oswego (8,519) and Schroeppel (7,937). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 40.9, a median household income of $69,183, 21.6% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 73.4% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.
In 2024, 54,031 votes were cast for president, about 57.2% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 37.9% and the Republican ticket 62.1%. The two-party margin moved from D+2.4 in 2008 to R+24.2 in 2024.
