Otsego County had an estimated 60,524 residents in July 2024, the 40th most populous of New York's 62 counties, up 3.4% since the 2020 census. Of those, 51,777 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 22.4% are 65 or older. Its 37,104 active registered voters equal about 71.7% of that voting-age population.
It covers 1,002 square miles of land (60 people per square mile). The largest towns and cities are Oneonta (15,679), Oneonta (4,950), Unadilla (4,068), Otsego (3,628) and Milford (2,755). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 39.9, a median household income of $68,885, 34.4% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 73.9% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.
In 2024, 28,287 votes were cast for president, about 54.6% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 46.1% and the Republican ticket 53.9%. The two-party margin moved from D+6.0 in 2008 to R+7.8 in 2024.
