Of those, 48,891 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 23.1% are 65 or older. Its 39,572 active registered voters equal about 80.9% of that voting-age population.
It covers 831 square miles of land (72 people per square mile). The largest towns and cities are Kingsbury (12,857), Granville (6,174), Fort Edward (5,946), Greenwich (4,840) and Fort Ann (4,744). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 45.4, a median household income of $73,495, 22.4% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 76.6% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.
In 2024, 28,492 votes were cast for president, about 58.3% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 39.4% and the Republican ticket 60.6%. The two-party margin moved from D+0.8 in 2008 to R+21.2 in 2024.
