Of those, 797,707 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 19.1% are 65 or older. Its 639,756 active registered voters equal about 80.2% of that voting-age population.

It covers 431 square miles of land (2,336 people per square mile). The largest towns and cities are Yonkers (211,040), Greenburgh (93,955), New Rochelle (85,512), Mount Vernon (71,999) and White Plains (62,561). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 41.8, a median household income of $118,976, 53.1% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 61.8% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.

In 2024, 455,229 votes were cast for president, about 57.1% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 63.1% and the Republican ticket 36.9%. The two-party margin moved from D+27.6 in 2008 to D+26.2 in 2024.
