Person County had an estimated 40,143 residents in July 2024, the 63rd most populous of North Carolina's 100 counties, up 2.7% since the 2020 census. Of those, 31,973 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 22.0% are 65 or older. Its 24,633 active registered voters equal about 77.0% of that voting-age population.
It covers 392 square miles of land (102 people per square mile), and 79.4% of residents live outside any incorporated city or town. Its one incorporated place is Roxboro (8,289 residents). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 44.2, a median household income of $63,300, 19.3% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 77.3% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.
In 2024, 21,993 votes were cast for president, about 68.8% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 37.7% and the Republican ticket 61.4%. The two-party margin moved from R+8.5 in 2008 to R+23.7 in 2024.
