Holmes County had an estimated 44,668 residents in July 2024, the 54th most populous of Ohio's 88 counties, up 1.0% since the 2020 census. Of those, 31,321 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 15.1% are 65 or older. Its 14,672 active registered voters equal about 46.8% of that voting-age population.
It covers 423 square miles of land (106 people per square mile). The largest cities and towns are Millersburg (3,264), Killbuck (812), Holmesville (375), Glenmont (242) and Nashville (182). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 32.7, a median household income of $76,140, 11.1% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 79.0% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.
In 2024, 12,335 votes were cast for president, about 39.4% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 15.0% and the Republican ticket 84.2%. The two-party margin moved from R+41.2 in 2008 to R+69.2 in 2024.
