How to get the Providence County voter file
Request it from the office below, send us the file, and you're ready to cut turf. Running countywide or in just part of Providence County? This is the office either way.
- Where to request it
- No county government exists. Providence County is a geographic designation only; there is no county clerk, no county board of elections, and no county voter-list product. Voter data is held at (a) the state CVRS via the RI Department of State, and (b) the local Board of Canvassers in each of the cities/towns within Providence County (Providence, Cranston, Pawtucket, Woonsocket, East Providence, North Providence, Johnston, Smithfield, North Smithfield, Scituate, Burrillville, Foster, Glocester, Lincoln, Cumberland, Central Falls). For the largest city in this county: City of Providence Board of Canvassers, 25 Dorrance Street, Room 102, Providence, RI 02903. Phone (401) 680-5525. Fax (401) 421-9397. Other cities/towns have their own boards (see vote.sos.ri.gov/Elections/LocalBoards).
- Cost
- No county fee (no county government). Municipal boards may charge a small per-page printing fee for printed lists under RI APRA (Access to Public Records Act); the digital list still comes from the $25 statewide product.
- How to request
- Counties don't sell. To get a Providence-County-scoped extract, either (a) buy the statewide file from the RI Dept of State and filter by city/town, or (b) submit the same SOS order form checking each city/town in Providence County as the scope. Direct requests to a Local Board of Canvassers must be made in writing to that municipality's board; they generate the list out of CVRS.
- Turnaround
- Local boards vary; in practice 1-3 weeks for a written request to a municipal board. Faster to buy the statewide list from SOS and filter.
- Use restrictions
- Same statutory restriction as statewide: political/election use only; no commercial use (RI Gen. Laws 17-6-5 / 17-6-7).
