Franklin County had an estimated 15,638 residents in July 2024, the 22nd most populous of Idaho's 44 counties, up 10.2% since the 2020 census. Of those, 10,990 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 14.8% are 65 or older. Its 7,934 active registered voters equal about 72.2% of that voting-age population.
It covers 663 square miles of land (24 people per square mile), and 43.1% of residents live outside any incorporated city or town. The largest cities and towns are Preston (6,160), Franklin (1,128), Weston (572), Dayton (539) and Clifton (461). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 33.3, a median household income of $71,950, 23.9% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 78.1% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.
In 2024, 7,184 votes were cast for president, about 65.4% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 9.8% and the Republican ticket 87.4%. The two-party margin moved from R+71.9 in 2008 to R+77.6 in 2024.
