Payette County had an estimated 27,662 residents in July 2024, the 14th most populous of Idaho's 44 counties, up 9.0% since the 2020 census. Of those, 20,806 are 18 or older, the voting-age population, and 20.1% are 65 or older. Its 13,545 active registered voters equal about 65.1% of that voting-age population.
It covers 407 square miles of land (68 people per square mile), and 37.0% of residents live outside any incorporated city or town. The largest cities and towns are Payette (8,754), Fruitland (7,078) and New Plymouth (1,608). The American Community Survey (2020-2024) puts it at a median age of 38.9, a median household income of $67,673, 17.3% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree or higher and 74.5% of occupied homes owned by the people living in them.
In 2024, 11,760 votes were cast for president, about 56.5% of the voting-age population; the Democratic ticket took 17.6% and the Republican ticket 80.4%. The two-party margin moved from R+41.5 in 2008 to R+62.8 in 2024.
